Water quality monitoring
- On Thursday 14 November, Urban Utilities issued an alert advising that, following heavy recent rainfall, wastewater releases into the Brisbane River had occurred at Morningside. The alert asks people to avoid contact with the river between Vic Lucas Park at Bulimba and Colmslie Beach Reserve at Murarrie.(https://www.urbanutilities.com.au/faults-and-interruptions/brisbane-river-updates)
- Although no warning has been issued regarding the Brisbane River in the SBSC area, sailors and volunteers are reminded that heavy rain events lead to elevated bacteria levels in the river. As usual, sailors and volunteers should not sail or enter the river if they have open wounds or anything else that would elevate their risk of an infection.
- For results of recent monitoring, go to: https://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/clean-and-green/natural-environment-and-water/water/water-quality-monitoring .
- SBSC members, LTS participants and volunteers are all encouraged to inform themselves of risk levels and make decisions accordingly. The Club respects your right not to participate in an event should you be concerned about water safety.
- EVEN WHEN MICROBIAL CONTAMINATION LEVELS ARE NOT ABNORMALLY ELEVATED, SAILORS AND VOLUNTEERS SHOULD NOT ENTER THE BRISBANE RIVER WITH OPEN WOUNDS OF ANY SORT.
