Learn to Sail School Holiday Classes

  • Our School Holiday Sailing Classes provide a safe and fun experience for 8-15 year olds in small dinghy sailing during the school holidays at our club house in West End
  • During this beginner course (Start Sailing 1), your child will learn about water safety, the basics of rigging, basic boat handling, and fundamental seamanship skills (weather, knots, terminology etc.).
  • While sailing, juniors will learn the basics of steering, trimming, and weight placement. 
  • The programs foster confidence in boats and water safety, while having a heap of fun with other kids!
  • Our aim is to have happy, confident sailors going home with excited tales of their sailing adventures at the end of each day.
  • All coaches are accredited and experienced in teaching sailing to kids. 

Cost

  • $295 per child for 4 days (Mon-Thu)

  • 9:00am until 2:00pm

Ages

  • 8-15 years

Meals

  • BYO morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, drinks and snacks.

What to bring

  • Sunscreen, hat, sunnies (no hat, no sail) 
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Clothes you don't mind getting wet in
  • A towel & a change of warm clothes
  • Closed-toe water shoes 
  • Recommended in winter or autumn: a wetsuit/thermal top as the water temperature is cool 
  • All lifejackets and boat equipment is provided at no cost. 

Special needs

  • Please advise our Junior Learn to Sail Coordinator if your child has medical, physical, intellectual or other support needs before finalising your booking in this program as we have limited instructor capacity.

Course Overview

This course introduces participants to dinghy sailing and its fundamental skills so they learn terminology and equipment and practice launching and returning to shore and capsize recovery. 

Course Prerequisites

Water confident.

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to begin sailing in a dinghy. All the equipment and gear will be provided by your accredited Discover Sailing Centre.

Course Outcome

You will gain your Start Sailing 1 completion certificate. 

 

We recognise that some of our course participants are completing the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award and may be using sailing and/or club membership to complete one or more sections of The Award. To learn more, click here
